ASTM B88, “Standard Specification for Seamless Copper Water Tube,” has just been revised. The new 2016 Edition is available from Document Center Inc. in paper format and for pdf download. You can also get company-wide access using our Standards Online subscription platform. The 2016 Edition replaces the 2014 Edition from 9/15/2014. All editions prior to 2016 are now obsolete.
FYI: The ASTM B88 uses feet and inch measurements. If you need the metric edition, it is numbered ASTM B88M. It also has just been updated with the release of a 2016 Edition.
The ASTM B88 copper tubing is used in general plumbing and other applications for the transport of water. It can be made from C12000 and C12200 copper alloys. The use of C10200 alloy has been deleted from the standard. Three wall-thickness measurements are defined: types K, L, and M.
The 8-page standard has quite a number of other changes. These include changes in the terms and definitions section and the removal of a number of referenced documents. In section 5, alternative forms of annealing are now allowed. Grain size requirements for O50 has been standardized to conform with other standards. And references to the withdrawn methods E2 and the Guide E3 have also been removed.
