ASME B30.24, “Container Cranes,” has just been revised. The new 2013 Edition is available from Document Center Inc. The standard applies to the construction, installation, operation, inspection, testing, and maintenance of container cranes used for lifting purposes.
ASME B30.24 – 2013 was first published in 2008 and provides requirements applicable to rail-mounted and rubber-tired cranes designed to handle shipping containers and other types of cargo at marine terminals. It does not apply to small industrial truck-type cranes, container-handling toploaders and sideloaders, or mobile straddle-type industrial lifts.
This revision adds requirements for personnel competence, pedestrian clearance, truck sweeps and wheel guards, and translation of non-English documentation into English.

The ASME B30.25, “Scrap and Material Handlers,” has also just been revised and released in a new 2013 Edition. This standard applies to the construction, installation, operation, inspection and maintenance of scrap and material handlers consisting of a base, a revolving upper structure with operator’s station (or stations), and a front for lifting scrap or materials using attachments such as magnets and grapples. Variations are acceptable when the equipment retains the same fundamental characteristics.
