IPC-A-610, “Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies,” is the workhorse of the Electronic Assembly standards. Now there’s a new Revision F for this standard and you can pre-order your copy now from Document Center Inc. One of the main drivers of this update was the desire to harmonize the content of the IPC-A-610 with the J-STD-001 (which is also updating to a new Revision F now as well). There’s also been an effort to gain synergy with additional Mil Standards and the IPC-A-620 too. This has resulted in a number of updates to the Clauses in Section 6 of the IPC-A-610 and Section 5 of the J-STD-001. You’ll also find similar revision to Section 8 of the IPC-A-610 and correspondingly the Section 7 of the J-STD-001.
The committees for the two standards have really taken user input into account for these updates, as is the protocol for good standards management. All comments have been reviewed and action taken as necessary. If you were one of those who submitted comments on the IPC-A-610, you’ll be pleased that your concerns were heard.
Of course, even though the IPC-A-610 Revision F is approved, there is still the time lag associated with publication. So this means that release from the printers on this item is not expected until next month. Meantime, you’ll want to know that you’ll get your copy of the new revision as soon as possible.
