New Revision J for AMS 2469 on Hard Anodic Coating

The frequently referenced AMS 2469, “Hard Anodic Coating on Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys,” has been updated.  The new Revision J is available from Document Center Inc. in either paper format or for pdf download.  This aerospace coating specification is used to increase surface hardness and resistance to abrasion by the formation of a dense aluminum oxide.  However, it may not be appropriate for parts that are “highly-stressed” due to a lowering of fatigue performance.

The new Revision J is a result of the usual 5 year review that is the protocol with standards originating from SAE International (formerly the Society of Automotive Engineers).  The 5 year review cycle is part of the requirements for standards here in the U.S. to be considered for adoption as American National Standards by ANSI (the American National Standards Institute).  You’ll note that it is the habit of SAE to mark the changes in each edition with a black line in the margin of the document.

It’s been a while since the document was updated.  The last changes were in 2008 when Revision H was released.  Now the Revision J cancels and supersedes all previous editions.  If you use this specification, you’ll want to get the latest copy.
