AMS 2772, “Heat Treatment of Aluminum Alloy Raw Materials,” has just been revised. The new Revision G is available from Document Center Inc. in both paper format and for pdf download. This frequently referenced Aerospace Material Specification is the replacement document for both MIL-H-6088 and AMS-6088. The new Revision G cancels and replaces the previous Revision F from 2011.
As advertised, this specification is the premiere document for heat treating wrought aluminum alloy raw materials. The 25-page AMS 2772G contains a wealth of information on the technical requirements for this process, as well as quality assurance provisions. Much of the publication is devoted to various tables which provide specific information for a variety of alloys, including solution heat treating temperatures, minimum soaking times, quench delay, aging treatments and so on.
The authoring committee has provided you with black lines in the margins of the document to alert you to areas where changes have been made. These updates occur in the quality assurance section of the AMS 2772. Particular attention is drawn to revisions for sections 4.3.1.1, 4.3.1.1.2, 4.3.2.5, and 4.3.2.5.2.
