ANSI/ESD STM97.2 2016 – ESD for floors and footwear

ANSI/ESD STM97.2, Standard Test Method for the Protection of Electrostatic Discharge Susceptible Items – Floor Materials and Footwear – Voltage Measurement in Combination with a Person, has been updated.  The new 2016 Edition is available from Document Center Inc. in either paper format or for pdf download.  The new revision replaces the previous 2006 Edition which is now withdrawn.

The ANSI/ESD STM97.2 is a test method standard.  It defines procedures for measuring voltage accumulation on people in combination with their footwear and the floor materials they contact.  This is an environment specific test, using controlled laboratory conditions.  You’ll use it to confirm your footwear/flooring system is appropriate for the control static electricity in sensitive work areas.

ESD control (the reduction or avoidance of static electricity) is essential in any number of work areas.  The build up of static can cause discharges that can negatively affect products and people.  This means that there are many aspects to good ESD control.  And the ESDA (Electrostatic Discharge Association) has relevant standards for many solutions to these issues.

What are the changes in the new 2016 Edition?  Your committee has listed these at the end of the publication.  They include updates for all references to “footwear/flooring.”  Revisions were also made to the following sections: 5.1.1, 5.1.3, 5.1.6.2, and 5.2.2.2.

If you’re concerned about ESD control in your facility, you’ll want to get a copy of this new standard.  Search for and order ESDA standards at the Document Center Inc. webstore, www.document-center.com.  As an authorized distributor of ESDA and many other standards, Document Center has an extensive collection of both current and obsolete editions for you to purchase.  Here is a link to the order page for ANSI/ESD STM97.2 for your convenience.
