The New IEC 61000-4-11 is out now!

The new IEC 61000-4-11: Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) – Part 4-11: Testing and measurement techniques – Voltage dips, short interruptions and voltage variations immunity tests for equipment with input current up to 16 A per phase, is now in edition 3.0 and replaces the previous 2.1 edition. This section of IEC 61000 defines the immunity test method and range of preferred test levels for electrical and electronic equipment connected to low-voltage power supply networks for voltage dips, short interruptions, and voltage variations.

This applies to electrical/electronic equipment with a rated input current not exceeding 16A/phase, for 50 Hz or 60Hz networks. This document aims to establish a common reference for evaluating the immunity of electrical and electronic equipment when subjected to voltage dips. This document makes references to IEC 61000-2-8.

So What Changed?

Aside from some formatting changes, there are a few technical changes that have been made. Some sections that were optional in the previous editions are now required. Some sections were also taken out of this edition entirely. The biggest change is the addition of Appendix D which talks about the generator specification requirements for voltage, rise and fall time, and inrush current capability. to easily see the changes between editions make sure you grab the red-line edition here. Redline editions come pre-marked from the publisher and clearly show the changes that were made this time around.

New BS EN 55022:2010 just released on Information technology equipment – Radio disturbance characteristics – Limits and methods of measurement

The new BS EN 55022 2010 Edition has just been released for public distribution.  It’s titled “Information technology equipment. Radio disturbance characteristics. Limits and methods of measurement,” and is the official English language edition of the EN 55022:2010.  The standard is a modified adoption of the CISPR 22 6th Edition from 2008.

The standard applies to information technology equipment (ITE). Procedures are given for the measurement of the levels of spurious signals generated by the ITE and limits are specified for the frequency range 9 kHz to 400 GHz for both class A and class B equipment. No measurements need be performed at frequencies where no limits are specified. The intention of this publication is to establish uniform requirements for the radio disturbance level of the equipment contained in the scope, to fix limits of disturbance, to describe methods of measurement and to standardize operating conditions and interpretation of results.

BS EN 55022 applies to 2 EU Directives: EMC Electromagnetic Compatibility (2004/108/EC) and RTTE Radio and telecommunications terminal equipment (1999/5/EC).  It replaces the BS EN 55022:2006+A2:2010 Edition, which remains current.

This standard, and all BS documents, are available from Document Center Inc. via our website, www.document-center.com.  Or contact us by phone (650-591-7600), fax (650-591-7617) or email (info@document-center.com).  We can help you with questions regarding the EN standards, as well as all your other conformance documentation requirements.

New BS EN 55024 2010 Edition released

BS EN 55024 has just been released as the new 2010 edition.  The popular standard is titled “Information technology equipment. Immunity characteristics. Limits and methods of measurement.”  The date on the new edition is January 2011 and the document is available now from Document Center Inc.

The new BS EN 55024:2010  is the official English language edition of the EN 55024 and is identical to the CISPR 24, 2010 Edition.

It establishes uniform requirements for the electromagnetic immunity of information technology equipment. BS EN 55024 specifies applicable tests, test levels, product operating conditions and assessment criteria.  Test methods are then found in the referenced Basic EMC Immunity standards.

BS EN 55024 sets out the requirements to provide an adequate level of intrinsic immunity.  The goal is for the equipment to operate as intended in its environment.  The standard specifies the immunity test requirements for equipment defined in the scope in relation to continuous and transient, conducted and radiated disturbances, including electrostatic discharges (ESD).

Some tests are specified in defined frequency bands or at selected frequencies because of testing and performance assessment considerations.  Equipment which fulfils the requirements at these frequencies is deemed to fulfil the requirements in the entire frequency range from 0 Hz to 400 GHz for electromagnetic phenomena.

The test requirements are specified for each port considered.

This standard, and many more, are available from Document Cen5ter Inc. at www.document-center.com, or by phone (650-591-7600), fax (650-591-7617) or email (info@document-center.com).  Feel free to contact us with additional questions.
