IEC 61788-4 Updated for Superconductors

IEC 61788-4, “Superconductivity – Residual resistance ratio measurement – Residual resistance ratio of Nb-Ti and Nb3Sn composite superconductors,” has just been updated.  The new Edition 4.0 replaces the previous edition from 2011 and is available now from Document Center Inc.  It is a technical revision, so you’ll need it if you use this standard.

Of course, superconductivity is an exciting technological development and standards have their role to play in it’s commercialization.  The IEC 61788 series provide a set of tests for measuring the various characteristics of both materials and formats (like wires.)   Part 4 deals with the  residual resistance ratio (RRR) of Nb-Ti and Nb3Sn composite superconductors.

This type of standard is highly technical.  You’ll be given information on the materials and specimens to be used for this test method.  The various formulas that define RRR are included, as is a graph of the relationship between temperature and resistance.  Specific information on the apparatus to use, specimen preparation and data acquisition and analysis is provided.  Uncertainty and stability is addressed, as is the report format.  Annex A covers additional information about the measurement of RRR.  Annex B discusses uncertainty considerations.

Your authoring committee has provided the following information on the changes included in this new revision for IEC 61788-4:

Updates have been made for “…the unification of similar test methods for residual resistance ratio (RRR) of Nb-Ti and Nb3Sn composite superconductors, the latter of which is described in IEC 61788-11.”

Now you’ll need to get a copy of this new revision.  Head to Document Center’s webstore at www.document-center.com and order a copy online.  Here’s the direct link to the order page for IEC 71688-4.  You’ll be able to choose either paper format or pdf download delivery.
