AMS 2817 for Preformed Packings Updated

AMS 2817, “Packaging and Identification, Preformed Packings,” has just been updated.  The new Revision G is available now from Document Center Inc.  This makes the previous Revision F obsolete.  The specification includes procedures for the protection of elastomeric seals and seal assemblies from contamination prior to installation.  It also provides information on labeling for positive identification by part number.

What kinds of seals are covered by AMS 2817?  These seals and seal assemblies include O-rings, cap seal assemblies, and so on.

What’s included in the specification?  The document classifies packaging material into three types:  kraft paper with polyethylene film lining,  kraft paper with a thicker polyethylene lining on one side than the other, and one with the use of U.V. resistant film lining.  Details of the preparation of the parts and the packaging itself are given.  This includes information on envelopes used in this application.

Additionally, quality assurace requirements (including test methods) are found in Section 4.  Section 5 has detailed information on delivery preparations.  This includes envelope marking requirements.  And of course, storage requirements fot these elastomeric parts is also included.

What’s new in the AMS 2817 Revision G?  Labeling requirements were clarified.  Usually there’s a bar in the left hand margin showing where the changes have occured.  No such bars are found in this new release.
